Project:  Roll Top Desk

 

 

This 100 year old desk was rescued from an apiary house in Upstate NY where it was used to store tools and bee-keeping supplies for the last 50 or so years.

 

 

 

 

Finish completely removed...

As you can see, most of the glue joints have deteriorated and some of the wonderful shell carved handles are missing, as well as the roll being in pieces.  Now we can better see what repairs need to be done to restore this desk's structural integrity.

 

 

 

Sanded,  repaired and ready for stain...

All the repairs are completed and it is time to select a stain and finish that will enhance the beauty of the quarter sawn oak grain.

 

 

 

Finished and ready to be admired...

We selected a rich color and modern satin finish to protect this once again, splendid desk.  It is now ready to be installed in our client's country law office.
